Bark Textured Gold Vermeil Earrings

£52.50
Fine silver, sterling silver, gold plate
5.5cm x 1.7cm

These bark Textured earrings in gold vermeil are made using once piece of bark that I picked up in the garden that had lovely textures on each side and I equally liked the textures and the angel wing shape so I though they would make an unusual pair of earrings in that the shape is the same in opposition but the textures are the different side of the bark. I also have these earrings in silver if you prefer but I was asked to do a pair in gold vermeil so here they are, I think they work very nicely in gold vermeil.
If you have not come across gold vermeil before is it is the French standard for gold plating to a good thickness of 2.5 microns over sterling or fine silver, it will last for a long time, in the case of these earrings the main body is made from recycled fine silver metal clay. Fine silver is 99.9% silver, the wires are sterling which is 92.5% silver and good for ear wires etc.. the gold plating is 24 carat/karat, hence the richness of the colour.
Metal clay was first created by the Japanese back in 1990 in gold and then in turn silver, it is microscopic particles of silver mixed into a binder, it can be sculpted, textured, rolled etc. it is then fired whereupon the binder burns away and the particles fuse together or sinter into a solid metal piece.
I love metal clay and the textures that can be created on a piece but please note it is not like milled metal sheet which can be made very smooth and is often highly polished.
