Swirl patterned shield earrings in fine silver, lovely and a little bit different! The photos don't do the pattern justice as the background is a satin finish but the swirly bits have been burnished so they are lovely and shiny and the pattern has a good depth to it, sorry this is hard to see in the photos it was very difficult to photograph! The ear wires are sterling silver but the shields are made from fine silver metal clay, so they are 999 percent silver rather than the 925 percent of sterling, 999 has an added benefit to it in that it doesn't tarnish nearly as quickly! if you don't know about metal clay it is terrific stuff to work with, it can be sculpted or patterned or rolled etc. and starts life out as fine silver particles in a clay binder and as the pieces are fired the binder burns away and the particles fuse together leaving a silver item, in this case fine silver. Clever stuff first created by the Japanese and now produced in all sorts of places and can be bought in bronze, copper, sterling, gold etc.. The earrings are 4.2cm long from the top of the hook and 2cm wide and the length of the shield is 2.5cm, in inches that is one and five eighths of an inch form the top of the hook and three quarters of an inch wide and the length of the shield is an inch. The hooks are soldered on and the have a nice long back on them. even though the shields are a decent size the earrings are still light and easy to wear.
