Handcrafted Thistle Flower Silver Earrings

£39.50
Fine silver, sterling silver
3.7cm long x 1.0cm wide

Whilst walking my neighbours dog through the farm up the road I spied some thistle flowers just opening up and having no idea as to whether I could make a mould from them I picked them anyway only to find they made a great mould and from there I handcrafted these earrings! I have patinated them lightly as I felt this would enhance the look and then I have burnished some of the raised parts to make them pop. They have good long sterling silver ear wires to keep them in your ears! Please note NO TWO PAIRS ARE EXACTLY ALIKE, you will receive this pair or one very similar to it. They are handmade from fine silver metal clay, which is tiny particles of fine silver (99.9% purity, sterling is 92.5%) which is mixed with a clay binder and then textured, shaped, sculpted etc., once dried it is then fired where the clay binder burns away and the metal particles fuse together leaving a solid silver piece, first created by the Japanese and now produced in all sorts of metals! Fine silver clay is also made from recycled silver.
I love metal clay but please note it does not come out like a smooth milled sheet of metal at the end of all the processes, I feel this is part of it’s charm and it is solid metal of whichever type it is made from.
The earrings are 3.7cm long from the top of the hook, 1cm wide and 2.5cm from the top of the ring on the rectangle, in inches that is 1 3/16 inches from the top of the hook, just under 1/2 inch wide and the drop length is 1 inch.
