Geometric Square Silver Swirl Earrings

£38.00
Fine silver, sterling silver, gold patina
3.7cm long x 2cm wide

A pair of funky geometric square earrings with a lovely swirly texture of them, which has a good depth to it, I have high lighted with gold patina and burnished some of the raised parts to give even more depth . I thought I could only do a black or variation on black patina but while I wasn't looking a whole stream of patinas have appeared! The patinas don't rub off or wash off and there are lots of different colours out there for a whole array of effects! The earrings are made from fine silver metal clay, which is tiny particles of fine silver (99.9% purity, sterling is 92.5%) which is mixed with a clay binder and then textured, shaped, sculpted etc., once dried it is then fired where the clay binder burns away and the metal particles fuse together leaving a solid silver piece, first created by the Japanese and now produced in all sorts of metals! The earrings are 3.7cm long from the top of the hook and 2cm wide and the drop from the bottom of the hook is 2cm also! In 'old money' that is 1 1/2 inches from the top of the hook, 3/4 inch wide and drop is also 3/4 inch wide. The earring hooks are a nice simple sterling silver fish hook style with my usual long back and I soldered the loop to give a clean line.
I love metal clay but please note it does not come out like a smooth milled sheet of metal at the end of all the processes, I feel this is part of it’s charm and it is solid metal of whichever type it is made from.
